“Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun
will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall
from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then the sign of the
Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will
mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with
power and great glory. And He will send His angels with a great sound of a
trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one
end of heaven to the other.” (Matthew 24:29-31 NKJV)
Who is our King? King rules and reigns over the people. The
worldly kings rule and reign in order to put order and harmony among people
with authority usually supported by police and military. All power is driven by
God the Father in heaven as Jesus says to Pontius Pilate. No power and
authority is from the earth but from heaven above. “Jesus answered, ‘You could
have no power at all against Me unless it had been given you from above.
Therefore the one who delivered Me to you has the greater sin.’” (John 19:11
NKJV) The kings and nobles and dignitaries are exercising power not their own
but the authorized from above. And the power is supposed to fulfill the
righteousness of God, but often lopsided and biased.
But there is the ultimate king who will rule and reign in
perfect and impeccable righteousness and justice. He is Christ Jesus, King of
kings and Lord of lords. Prophet Isaiah prophesied Christ Jesus the Lord in a
marvelous statement.
“For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of His government and peace
There will be no end,
Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom,
To order it and establish it with judgment and justice
From that time forward, even forever.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.” (Isaiah
9:6-7 NKJV)
Upon the request of the people of Israel, God gave a king
Saul who was taller than anyone in Israel. When the Holy Spirit empowered him
he was made a different man. When the disturbing news of imminent invasion of
the enemies was delivered to Saul, he was furious and mustered the army of
Israel and defeated them completely. But he was not a kind of king God wanted
to give upon the people of Israel. Soon, Saul relied on his own mind and
thoughts than the counsel of God. His life was so miserable and frustrated that
he was tormented by the evil spirit and ended in a tragic death in the battlefield.
Although he was a king anticipated and welcomed by the
people of Israel, he was not the king God had in His mind. Instead, God
prepared a boy David as the future king of Israel through much tribulations and
sufferings. After all, King David was called a man after God’s own heart (1
Samuel 13:14). He was the picture of the Messiah who was to come as a babe in
the land of Bethlehem. Christ was born in the likeness of man and died, buried,
and rose again from the dead in order to be King of kings and Lords of lords. Christ
conquered the last enemy death and snatched the captives into the bosom of the
Father in heaven and dispensed them His gifts according to the will of the
King.
Just as the King who died and buried and rose again from the
dead ascended into the heavens so He will come again with power and great
glory. The coming of the King will be the day of eternal victory to the
believers but the day of eternal judgment to the non-believers. “He who
overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My
son. But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral,
sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which
burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” (Revelation 21:7-8
NKJV)
The Day of the Lord for each individual will be the day of
physical death. At the last breath of physical life on the earth, each genuine
believer shall see the King Christ Jesus coming in the cloud with great glory
and honor and power and the great trumpet call. What a glory, what a day that
will be for those who shall see Christ face to face! What a tragedy, what a
terrible day that will be for those who shall be cast out into the eternal pit
of fire separated from God eternally! The question is, “Do you anticipate and
expect the True King Christ Jesus to come in your hearts now?”
