The Fall of Lucifer

“How you are fallen from heaven,
O Lucifer, son of the morning!
How you are cut down to the ground,
You who weakened the nations!
For you have said in your heart:
‘I will ascend into heaven,
I will exalt my throne above the stars of God;
I will also sit on the mount of the congregation
On the farthest sides of the north;
I will ascend above the heights of the clouds,
I will be like the Most High.’
Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol,
To the lowest depths of the Pit.
“Those who see you will gaze at you,
And consider you, saying:
‘Is this the man who made the earth tremble,
Who shook kingdoms,
Who made the world as a wilderness
And destroyed its cities,
Who did not open the house of his prisoners?’ Isaiah 14:12-17 NKJV

Here in Isaiah fourteenth chapter is the vivid description of the fall of Satan, Lucifer, son of the morning, shining one, the devil. The devil said in his heart, "I will ascend... I will exalt... I will sit... I will ascend... I will be..." He rebelled against God and wanted to be like the Most High, the possessor of heaven and earth. He never wanted to submit to God although he was given such a mighty power as son of the morning. Even after the fall, Jesus Christ called him as the prince of the world (John 14:30).

However, no matter what and how he tries hard and sometimes seemingly looks like winning, he is forever the loser with complete frustration and shame and humiliation. "So the Lord God said to the serpent: 'Because you have done this, You are cursed more than all cattle, And more than every beast of the field; On your belly you shall go, And you shall eat dust All the days of your life.'" (Genesis 3:14 NKJV)

So, defining sin in two words is "I will...."
